Regulation of the Film Industry

Regulation of the Film Industry

  • Regulation- The rules, restrictions and guide lines that the media industry must follow.
  • BBFC- British Boarder Film Classification, they give every film an age rating that is published.
  • It is regulated by age certificates (On Previous Post)
  • We regulate films, as they can be impressionable on younger children.
Gummo
  • We don't show younger children this, as they are sniffing glue, and it doesn't want to give any ideas to them.
  • It also uses the word 'queer' in a negative manner, which the producer wouldn't want younger people to gather the ideology that something is wrong with being gay.
  • It shows minors on drugs, which is very controversial.
Harrold And Kumer
  • The theme of drugs suggests that it is a 15.
  • There is casual comedic racism, its not a racist film as there are many different ethnicities in the film.
  • The film may be 15, as there is an aggressive use of the word 'bitch', it is a gendered swear word.
The Land Before Time
  • It would be a U as yes it does show death but it is not graphic, it is quite sweet, and its a cartoon.
  • Its less realistic as its a cartoon.
  • It could be PG, as it has a very emotional scene, as it may upset young children as thy wouldn't want parents dying.
Porky's Revenge
  • It might be a 15 as it includes nudity, yet it has a comedy aspect to it, which takes away the sexual nature of the scene.
