Adbusters Website

  • Reinforce brand identity?
  • Clear housestyle?

  • What does the website offer that is different from the magazine?
    • Videos
    • sound
    • copyright free music

  • How does the website extent the brand?
    • Campaigns
    • Instagram
  • How does the magazine use social media?
  • How can readers interact with the magazine through the website and social media?

  • Why is it important for print magazines to have an online presence?
  • It is important for a print magazine such as Adbusters to have an online presence, as a majority of people life's are based around social media, so a print magazine would have to keep up with the times to stay relevant, as most average people wouldn't think to go to a specific shop to go and buy a magazine, when they have plenty of online articles, especially with such a rare magazine to find (Adbusters) so many would lie the same magazine experience, but for free on their website. For example, Adbusters have an Instagram page where they post many images that are likely to be in their magazine or on the website, Instagram is very popular at the moment and it would give the company much more exposure and freedom if they were to post on there, and it may get more youths attentions, as many young people use the photo sharing app/website. Sonia Livingstones and Peter Lunts theory of regulation is true to this, as Adbusters is free to post what they want online, as their is no legal form of regulation, right now you would be able to search up illegal pornography and have no repercussions, social media gives so much access and space for the company, such as publishing a drawing of the so called  leader of the free world (Donald Trump) with a target around his mouth, years ago that would have made someone get into a lot of trouble if they were to vandalise a wall and paint it on there, yet because its online there is nothing stopping them, everything they do can not be stopped (unless too extreme), in fact it is very beneficial to a magazine as controversial as Adbusters. The world has changed, and print magazines have to change with it.

  • A criticism of Adbusters is that it is a luxury product, it costs money to get, yet they are so against you buying and spending a lot of stuff on items, yet they expect you to buy their product, their magazine.
  • Adbusters has some in the issue with the ideology they are putting out their,  as they are just saying that the world is awful its going badly and its all our fault, yet it recommends no alternative.
  • The positive side of capitalism is that buying products allows us to support business owners. And that it gives us solutions and makes life easier., (same brands of shoes etc). And gives us an order to life, if they are rich they worked hard enough, if they are poor they didn't (apparently). By buying consumer products we can identify ourselves and give ourselves identities.
